A brutal murder has been reported in Uttar Pradesh’s Jhansi where a retired railway employee allegedly killed his live-in partner, stuffed her body into a metal box and set it on fire.

According to reports, the accused, Ram Singh Parihar, dumped the woman’s ashes in a river but was caught while attempting to transport the rest of her remains to his second wife's house for further disposal.

The victim, 35-year-old Preeti, was killed after she allegedly demanded large sums of money from Parihar. The man has been married twice before, with his first wife living in Sipri Bazaar and his second wife residing in the Kotwali area.

How the case unraveled

According to an NDTV report, the alertness of a loader driver helped police crack the case. On Saturday night, Parihar and his son Nitin hired a loader and transported a heavy blue trunk to his second wife Geeta's house, accompanied by Nitin and a few of his friends.

Jaysingh Pal, the loader driver, grew suspicious of the men’s behavior and the contents of the trunk. After unloading the box, he tipped off the police. When authorities arrived at the house and forced open the trunk, they discovered the gruesome remains inside.

"The alleged remains have been collected by the forensic team for further investigation. The accused’s second wife, Geeta, told us that Parihar had claimed he was being harassed for money by the woman he was living with," Superintendent of Police (City) Preeti Singh was quoted as saying in the NDTV report.

Singh added that two individuals, including Parihar's son, have been arrested, while a manhunt is underway for the main accused.
