Maharashtra municipal election results: 5 latest UPDATES as Congress ahead in Latur, BJP wave in Solapur, Thane

In Pimpri-Chinchwad, serious lapses in administrative planning came to light on the day of counting, Marathi news reports said. The counting process in Wards 16, 17, 18, and 22 of the Municipal Corporation was affected, with counting agents left to bear the brunt.

After counting of votes began on Friday morning, the BJP and ally Shiv Sena (Shinde) were ahead in the Mumbai Municipal Corporation elections as per early trends. Exit polls have predicted a sweep for the ruling Mahayuti alliance in the elections to 29 municipal corporations held on Thursday. A voter turnout of 52.94 per cent was recorded in the Mumbai civic polls, down from 55.53 per cent in the last elections in 2017, officials said on Friday.

Here are five latest updates from municipal corporations across Maharashtra as counting progresses:

1. As per Marathi media reports, the BJP was leading in 42 BMC seats, while Shiv Sena (UBT) was ahead in 33. Shiv Sena (Shinde) was leading in 17, Congress in 4, and the MNS in 2 seats. NCP (SP), NCP (Ajit), and VBA were leading in none, while others were leading in 3 seats.

2. In Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, the BJP was ahead in 9 seats, Shiv Sena (Shinde) in 5, NCP (Ajit) in 1, Shiv Sena (UBT) in 4, Congress in 2, and NCP (SP) in 1 seat.

3. In Thane, the BJP-Shiv Sena alliance was in control, leading in 18 seats. The Sharad Pawar faction of the NCP was ahead in 5 seats here, while Shiv Sena (UBT) was ahead in 3.

4. In Solapur, the BJP was comfortably ahead in 32 seats, while the Shiv Sena (Shinde) was leading in 7. Congress was leading in two, and all of the other players are yet to open their accounts.

5. In Latur, the Congress was ahead in 16 seats, while its ally VBA was not leading in any seats. The BJP was ahead in five seats, Lokmat said in a report.
