The BJP has suspended former Union Minister R.K Singh for six years from the party for some of his recent statements, immediately after the Bihar elections.
Singh was once a close associate of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He has, however, not been active in politics for some time.
Singh’s anti-party activities involve allegations he had made against the Nitish Kumar government and openly questioning several NDA candidates. Ahead of the election, he also alleged a Rs 62,000 crore electricity scam against the Nitish Kumar government and demanded a CBI investigation. Singh once also asked voters not to vote for Samrat Chaudary, the NDA candidate in Tarapur.
He had labelled Deputy CM Samrat Chaudhary, JDU’s Anant Singh, and RJD’s Surajbhan Singh as murder accused.
Party members noticed that Singh was absent from the PM’s election rallies in the Shahabad region.
Party members have remained silent on his remarks during the election campaign and seemingly waited until it was over to take action against the former minister. The party suspended Singh as soon as the elections ended.
The former minister had also distanced himself from the party during recent years and openly supported Prashant Kishor's statements against some party leaders.
R.K Singh had reportedly been dissatisfied with the party since he lost the 2024 Lok Sabha election from Ara and had alleged that BJP insiders had caused his defeat. He also alleged that BJP leaders bribed Bhojpuri star Pawan Singh to contest the Karakat Lok Sabha election as an independent. NDA candidate Upendra Kushwaha had lost the Karakat seat in the election.
The party had also sent notices to MLC Asok Agarwal and the Katihar Mayor Usha Agarwal.
