The BJP in Bihar seems to be bettering its position compared to the 2020 elections, with it crossing the 50-seat mark as early results began to trickle in. As of 9 am, when the lead status is 93 for NDA, the BJP has 53 ahead of JD(U)’s 38, and others at 3.

At present, the party has an 80 per cent strike rate and has surpassed JDU’s performance.

The mood in the BJP camp is upbeat. Deputy CM and BJP candidate from the Lakhisarai  seat, Vijay Kumar Sinha, told reporters that the trust that the people of Bihar have placed in Modi and Nitish Kumar will give the country a new direction. “Appu and Pappu spread an atmosphere of madness without thinking, so no one takes their words seriously. Our results will be better than the exit poll," Sinha mocked the RJD-led Mahagathbandhan.

Prominent BJP candidates who are leading the race include Maithili Thakur in Alinagar, Samrat Chaudhary in Tarapur, Nitin Nabin in Bankipur, Sreyasi Singh from Jamui,

This has also triggered speculation that the BJP might stake claim to the Chief Minister’s seat as rightly deserved.

Interestingly, the contest for the parties with the highest number of seats is between the BJP and the RJD. As of 9 am, RJD has a lead in 57 seats while BJP is slightly ahead with 63. In the 2020 elections, the RJD had the highest number of seats.

Initial trends show the NDA crossing the majority mark of 122 seats. Interestingly, Jan Suraaj Party is also leading in 3 seats.
