An Air India flight from Delhi to Bengaluru, carrying 172 passengers, was diverted to Bhopal due to a technical snag on Monday night.

The flight (AIC 2487, A320 Neo, VT-EXO) made a safe landing under emergency conditions at the Raja Bhoj Airport.

"Following standard safety procedures, a full emergency was declared at 1933 IST. A few minutes later, the crew confirmed that the warning had cleared and all aircraft systems were normal," said an official.

"The flight landed safely at 2000 IST with 172 persons on board," he added.

In a statement, the airline said its ground team in Bhopal has been providing immediate assistance and support to passengers.

"Every effort is being made to fly them to their destination at the earliest,” it said.

According to Airport Director Ramji Awasthi, the emergency landing has not affected the airport operations.

The incident came hours after a Delhi-bound Air India plane carrying 228 passengers from San Francisco made a precautionary landing at Ulaanbaatar in Mongolia due to a suspected technical issue.

The passengers of the AI174 flight were disembarked and were given hotel arrangements, the airline said in a statement.

“With the help of our partners and local authorities, Air India has extended immediate assistance to the passengers. They were served meals on board and have been disembarked,” it said.

Air India further claimed that alternate arrangements are being made to fly the passengers to their destination at the earliest.

“Air India sincerely regrets the inconvenience to passengers arising from this unforeseen diversion, which was undertaken in the interest of safety. Every effort is being made to minimise the inconvenience,” it said.
