'She signed fake postmortem report of my daughter': Woman's claim adds fresh twist to Maharashtra doctor suicide case

Bhagyashree Maruti Pachangne says her daughter Deepali Maruti died under mysterious circumstances in her husband's home

In a fresh twist to the suicide case of a doctor in Maharashtra's Satara, a woman has claimed that the deceased medical officer had signed a fabricated postmortem report of her daughter.

The woman, Bhagyashree Maruti Pachangne, who hails from the same district, alleged that her daughter Deepali Maruti died under mysterious circumstances in her husband's home, but the postmortem report claimed it was a natural death.

She also demanded an investigation into her daughter's death.

According to an NDTV report, Bhagyashree alleged that Deepali, who was married to Ajinkya Hanmant Nimbalkar, an Indian Army officer, faced continuous mental and physical abuse from her husband and in-laws.

Deepali allegedly died by suicide on August 19, but Bhagyashree suspects that she could have been murdered.

The woman alleged that they received a postmortem report only after a month, and the document was completely fabricated.

"My daughter could not have done this. She was six months pregnant and had a one-and-a-half-year-old daughter-how could she leave them behind? She would never do such a thing. I believe she was murdered," Bhagyashree was quoted as saying by the news portal.

She further claimed Nimbalkar could have used his political influence to suppress the case.

Her accusation corroborates the claim of a relative of the deceased doctor, who alleged that the victim had been pressured to change medical reports at the sub-district hospital where she worked.

Uproar continues over doctor's death

The 28-year-old doctor, hailing from Beed district, was found hanging in a hotel room in Phaltan town on Thursday night.

In the suicide note written on her palm, she alleged that police sub-inspector Gopal Badane raped her on multiple occasions, while Prashant Bankar, a software engineer, mentally harassed her.

Both the accused have been arrested.

A relative of the doctor alleged that she had complained multiple times about harassment, but her grievances were not addressed.

Politics rages on

A political row has erupted over the case after Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Ambadas Danve had accused former BJP MP Ranjitsingh Naik Nimbalkar of pressuring the doctor on one occasion in the past.

Nimbalkar has denied the allegation, stating that his name was being deliberately dragged into the case.

Without naming Nimbalkar, BJP MLA Suresh Dhas demanded that the MP who allegedly tried to pressurise the woman doctor be made an accused in the case.

On Sunday, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis gave a clean chit to Nimbalkar though vowed justice to the victim. Targeting the Opposition, Fadnavis said a few are trying to politicise the issue and that he would not tolerate such attempts.
