BJP MP Khagen Murmu was attacked by locals at Jalpaiguri, West Bengal, in a stone-throwing incident.
Murmu was at Nagrakata in Jalpaiguri’s Dooars region to help with relief and rescue operations following the devestating floods and landslides. The party's delegation was distributing relief supplies to flood victims when some locals pelted stones.
The MP suffered from a severe head injury and was rushed to the hospital. The vehicle Murmu travelled in was also damaged.
BJP leader Amit Malviya has accused the TMC of instigating the attack. In a post on X, he wrote, "TMC's jungle raj in Bengal!"
"While Mamata Banerjee was dancing at her Kolkata carnival, the TMC and the state administration were missing. Those who were actually helping people, BJP leaders and workers, are being attacked for carrying out relief work. This is TMC Bengal, where cruelty reigns supreme and mercy is punished," he added in the post.
Murmu is a two-time MP from North Malda and is a respected tribal leader.
Siliguri MLA Dr Shankar Ghosh was also injured in the attack.
