Samir Modi, the brother of fugitive businessman Lalit Modi, has been arrested on rape charges by the Delhi Police on Thursday.
A case against Samir Modi was registered in Southeast Delhi.
The police said Samir Modi was arrested at the Indira Gandhi International Airport on Thursday upon his return from abroad. He has been taken into custody after a case was registered against him at the New Friends Police Station.
An FIR was registered against Samir on September 10, under Sections 376 and 506 of the IPC. A complaint was received against Samir in 2019, following which an investigation was launched.
Samir Modi is the founder and managing director of Modicare, a direct-selling company offering high-quality skin care, home care, and personal care items at the best prices.
Son of Godfrey Phillips India chairperson Bina Modi, Samir Modi was ousted from the board of Godfrey Phillips India following the feud with his mother and other directors.
Recent controversy
In June, Samir Modi had claimed that his mother orchestrated a physical assault on him during a company's board meeting. He alleged that he was stopped from participating in the board meeting of Godfrey Phillips India on May 30 by his mother's security personnel and was "grievously injured". "This attack was orchestrated because of greed and to deprive me of my rights, my inheritance and with the intention to kill me or make me settle on their dictated terms," he had said in a complaint.
