Two terrorists trying to cross the Line of Control (LoC) in the Gurez sector of north Kashmir’s Bandipora district were shot dead in an encounter on Thursday, the Army said.

The gunfight took place near Naushehra Naar after troops noticed a group of infiltrators attempting to enter Indian territory.

According to the Chinar Corps, the operation was launched jointly by the Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police after receiving intelligence about a possible infiltration attempt.

“Alert troops spotted suspicious movement and challenged them. The terrorists opened fire, which was met with an effective response, leading to their elimination,” the Army said on X, adding that the operation was still underway.

In a separate incident, a soldier lost his life while on duty in Kupwara district. The Chinar Corps paid tribute to Havildar Ikbal Ali, saying, “We honour the supreme sacrifice of Havildar Ikbal Ali, who laid down his life while performing operational duty in Kupwara. His courage and dedication will always inspire us.”

The Army added that the Chinar warriors salute his bravery and assured support to his family, saying, “We stand in solidarity with the bereaved family and are committed to their well-being.”
