Telangana rain update: IMD predicts flash floods, issues red alert for 4 districts

The IMD has issued a red alert for four Telangana districts. Hyderabad and its surrounding areas are also expected to receive significant rainfall in next 48 hours

The Indian Meteorological Department has forecast heavy rains at in Telangana for two days. The weather agency warned of possible flash floods in five places owing to the rains.

As per the press bulletin from IMD, "Isolated heavy rainfall likely over Telangana, Kerala and Mahe during August 18-20." Light to moderate rainfall at most places, accompanied with thunderstorm and lightning likely over Rayalaseema, Tamil Nadu, Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam, and Telangana during the next five days, the weather agency has predicted.

According to the regional weather centre in Chennai, the southwest monsoon has been vigorous over North Interior Karnataka, Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Telangana on Monday, and these states received heavy rains. The weather agency has predicted widespread rains in the state for two days and fairly widespread rains on August 21. The state is likely to receive moderate rainfall from August 22-24. IMD has warned Hyderabad and its neighbouring districts could receive heavy rains for the next 24 to 48 hours.

The IMD has warned of flash flood risk in five places - Jogulamba Gadwal, Mahabubnagar, Sangareddy, Vikarabad and Wanaparthy districts.   IMD has issued a red alert for Jayashankar Bhupalapally, Mulugu, Bhadradri Kothagudem and Mahabubabad districts. According to the weather agency, an orange alert has been issued for Adilabad, Komaram Bheem Asifabad, Mancherial, Nirmal, Nizamabad, Jagtial, Rajanna Siricilla, Karimnagar, Peddapalli, Khammam, Suryapet, Warangal, Hanamkonda, Jangaon, Siddipet, Medak, Kamareddy, Vikarabad and Sangareddy districts.
