Sharing official figures of students who availed internships, the leader of the opposition of Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi said the PM Internship Scheme had less than 10k takers.

The official figures were shared in response to his question to the Minister of Corporate Affairs, where he asked for the details of applications received and regarding the number of internships offered, as well as accepted.

As per the data, a total of 10.77 lakh applications were received for the PM Internship Scheme and a total of 1.53 lakh offers were made. However, only 9,453 students accepted the internship offer.

This stark figure was highlighted by Rahul Gandhi in a tweet on X(formerly Twitter). "₹1 lakh crore rhetoric - Season 2! Even after 11 years, Modi ji’s same old rhetoric, same rehearsed figures. Last year, a promise of 1 crore internships from ₹1 lakh crore - this year, again a ₹1 lakh crore job scheme! What’s the truth? In response to my question in Parliament, the government admitted - less than 10,000 internships. The stipend so low that 90% of youth refused it. Modi ji has no new ideas left. From this government, the youth will get not jobs, but only rhetoric," he tweeted.

What is the PM Internship Scheme?

Candidates who are selected under the scheme will be offered a stipend of Rs 5,000 per month. Rs 500 is paid by the company based on attendance and Rs 4,500 is transferred by the government to the Aadhaar-linked bank account of the candidate through Direct Benefit Transfer.
