The BJP on Wednesday won municipal elections held across Haryana with its mayoral contestants claiming thumping victories in Gurugram, Faridabad, Rohtak, Ambala, Panipat, Sonipat, Hisar, Karnal and Yamunanagar.

In Manesar, however, independent candidate Inderjit Yadav secured the polls. The Congress drew a blank, reflecting the sentiments seen during the assembly polls last year.

Gurugram, Faridabad, Rohtak, Hisar, Karnal and Yamunanagar went to polls on March 2 along with the mayoral bypolls in Ambala and Sonipat. The elections for presidents and ward members in 21 municipal committees were also held the same day.

A week later, Panipat saw elections for the mayor and 26 councillors on March 9.
