Actor-politician and Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam leader Vijay launched a scathing attack on the ruling BJP at the Centre and the DMK in the state, accusing them of enacting a “staged drama” over the three-language policy. Stating that his party stands by the people of Tamil Nadu in the language row, Vijay accused the DMK and BJP of having a “secret alliance” and termed their tussle over the allotment of funds in the new education policy, as a fight between “kindergarten” kids.

At an event to celebrate the second year of TVK, Vijay made it clear that he and his party cadres are looking to rewrite history in the 2026 general elections like in 1967 and 1977 when C.N. Annadurai and M.G. Ramachandran stormed to power. Flanked by his friend and political strategist Prashant Kishor, Vijay delivered a fiery speech, ridiculing the “hashtag war” on X. He said that it is duty of the Centre to allot funds and receiving them is the state’s rights.

Interestingly, Kishor made it clear in his speech that he will not do any political strategising for Vijay, but help him win the election. He also indicated that the party will have a future, if it fights corruption, communalism and dynasty which rules the state.

Speaking on the unpredictability of politics, Vijay said that there are no permanent friends or foes. Vijay’s statement was along the lines of the remark by his party strategist and officer-bearer Aadhav Arjuna, who said the TVK is not here to contest 40 or 45 seats and that Vijay will function as the de-facto opposition leader of the state. Their statements indicate that the TVK is ready to forge an alliance with smaller parties in the state and was open to sharing power with the political parties which accept him as the chief minister.

Talking about the criticism against him and his party recruiting youngsters, Vijay said that having young faces is strength and not weakness. Like Annadurai and MGR, he said his party will storm to power with youngsters. “Weren’t the people behind Annadurai and MGR young then?” he asked.

Responding to comments on the party’s grassroots, Vijay said that he has plans to appoint booth level agents for all the 69,000 booths across the state. He also asked the party workers to expand the TVK family ten-fold in the next 100 days. Stating that his party men are not landlords like the other political parties, Vijay took a dig at the DMK indirectly. “Ordinary people have achieved extraordinary things. This is a party for common people, not for landlords. Earlier, landlords would enter politics, but now those in politics are becoming landlords. Instead of caring about people’s welfare and development, they only think about money – how to get it through all possible means. Our goal is to eliminate such landlords from politics.”

Sources close to Vijay say that the party is in talks with AIADMK. While the initial talks began with the demand for 80 of 234 seats, sources say that he has been demanding a share in power and a coalition government.
