Jammu and Kashmir: Terrorists open fire at Army vehicle in Rajouri's Sunderbani; efforts on to nab suspects

The Sunderbani sector, which is close to the Line of Control, is a traditional infiltration route for militants

An Army vehicle was attacked by terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday. However, no casualties were reported on either side.

The attack occurred in Phil, a forward village in Sunderbani sector of Rajouri district. The area is under tight surveillance as it has been considered a traditional infiltration route for militants.

The Sunderbani sector is close to the Line of Control. Officials said the terrorists who were reportedly hiding in a forest fired a few rounds at the Army vehicle.

The security forces have fired back at the terrorists and reinforcements have arrived at the spot.

Efforts are on to neutralise the suspected terrorists and the area has been cordoned off. A search operation was launched by the Army in the locality.

On January 1, two terrorists attacked three houses in Upper Dhangri village in Rajouri. However, one of the residents fired shots in the air and the terrorist fled thinking the security forces arrived. Around 10 people were injured in the attack. Three of them were declared dead after they were rushed to hospital.

In Rajouri, minority Hindus are often targeted by terrorists following the revocation of Article 370.

On August 11, 2024, five soldiers were martyred in an attack on an Army camp at Pargal village in Rajouri's Darhal.

Between March and April 2022, four explosions were reported in the Kandi Koteranka belt of Rajouri. Lashkar-e-Taiba commander Talib Hussain Shah was held responsible for the attack after he got arrested.

On August 13, 2021, a BJP leader's house was attacked in Rajouri after a terrorist hurled a grenade. The blast killed an infant and injured seven people.
