The Bharatiya Janata Party is likely to hold its legislative party meeting on Monday to decide the new chief minister of Delhi.

The BJP central leadership will send its observers for the meeting. According to reports, the new government is likely to be sworn in on February 18.

The BJP stormed back to power in the national capital after a gap of more than 26 years by winning 48 out of the 70 seats in the assembly elections held on February 5.

Ever since the election results, speculations have been rife about the CM candidate with several names doing the rounds for the top post.

Parvesh Verma, who defeated AAP supremo and former chief minister Arvind Kejriwal from the New Delhi seat, and former Delhi BJP presidents Vijender Gupta and Satish Upadhyay are said to be among the front-runners for the CM post.

Pawan Sharma, Ashish Sood, Rekha Gupta and Shikha Rai are also contenders for the chief minister's post.

New Delhi MP Bansuri Swaraj, daughter of late Sushma Swaraj, is also reportedly among the probable candidates.

Though the BJP leadership has been holding parleys with the newly elected MLAs on the government formation, a final decision was delayed as Prime Minister Narendra Modi had to return to Delhi from the US.

Earlier, media reports claimed that party president J.P. Nadda had insisted that the chief minister would be selected from the elected MLAs and the legislature party meeting would take place after Modi's return.
