The Waqf Amendment Bill report by a Joint Parliament Committee was accepted in the Rajya Sabha on Thursday afternoon amid protests by the opposition, which staged a walkout

BJP MP Medha Vishram Kulkarni, who is a member of the committee, tabled the report in Rajya Sabha.

Chairman Jagdeep Dhankar then read out a message from the president as the opposition continued their protest. Following this Dhankar urged Kharge to ask opposition MPs to be seated, saying not to disrespect the president of India.

However, the uproar kept going and the house was adjourned till 11.20 am.

After the session resumed, Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge termed the JPC report "fake", alleging that the dissent note by opposition members of the panel was removed.

Kharge said the report should be sent back and reintroduced with the dissenting views of the opposition.

Chairman Dhankar, however, claimed that no dissent note was removed from the report.

Union Minister Kiren Rijiju said the JPC report and its annexure has been tabled and that no deletion took place.

Following this, the opposition staged a walkout. Dhankar said they are not walking out from the House but from constitutional obligation.

Earlier on January 30, the report was submitted to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla.
