While all the eyes are on the Delhi Assembly Election Results 2025, where the BJP has crossed the majority mark as per the early trends, the saffron party seems to be heading for an easy victory in the Milkipur Bypoll in Uttar Pradesh, with its candidate Chandrabhanu Paswan leading by over 10,000 votes.
His nearest rival, Samajwadi Party’s Ajit Prasad, has polled over 7,000 votes.
While the Bahujan Samaj Party is not contesting the Milkipur bypoll, the Congress is backing SP, its alliance partner.
With the bypolls coming months after the BJP lost the Faizabad Lok Sabha seat that houses the Ayodhya Ram Mandir, the saffron party had turned it into a prestige battle, as Milkipur is one of the assembly segments in Faizabad.
The bypoll was necessitated after SP’s Awadhesh Prasad vacated the seat following his win from Faizabad in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
In the 2022 Uttar Pradesh polls, Milkipur was the only seat the BJP lost in Ayodhya district.
More than 65 per cent of the total 3.71 lakh voters in the Milkipur constituency voted in the February 5 bypoll.
