The Jharkhand Police, which arrested three men in connection with the gangrape of a Spanish tourist, have initiated a search for the remaining four accused.

Superintendent of Police Pitamber Singh Kherwar told reporters on Sunday that seven people were allegedly involved in the crime. "The other four accused have been identified, and searches are underway. They will be nabbed soon," Kherwar said, adding that the medical test conducted on the woman confirmed rape.

The victim, from Spain, was allegedly gang-raped on Friday at Kurumahat in Hansdiha police station area, around 300 km from the state capital Ranchi. She was spending the night in a tent along with her husband, who is in his 60s when the incident happened.

According to the couple, they had camped out near the site because they could not find hotels nearby. "They raped me, they took turns while some watched and they stayed like that for about two hours", the woman said in the video. The couple manages their joint Instagram account, where they post images of their travels around the world by motorcycle to almost 200,000 followers.

It is unclear when the couple would leave the state. "Legal procedures are underway. We will let you know about this later," the SP added.

Meanwhile, the Spanish Embassy in India posted on X, "Thank you all for your support. We need to stand united in our commitment to end violence against women everywhere in the world." On learning about the crime, the Spanish Foreign Ministry said on Sunday it was sending staff to the area and had been in touch with authorities. The Brazilian Embassy has also intervened in the issue as the victim shares Brazilian heritage.

National Commission for Women member Mamta Kumari also met the survivor. "All the accused involved in the crime should be arrested at the earliest and stringent action should be ensured," she said, while hitting out at the law and order situation in the state.
