Amid the ongoing Israel-Hamas war, Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with Israeli President Isaac Herzog on Friday and reiterated India's support and batted for an early and durable resolution to end the conflict.
Modi met Herzog during the COP28 World Climate Action Summit in the UAE.
Modi expressed his condolences on the loss of lives in the October 7 terror attacks and welcomed the release of hostages, External Affairs Ministry spokesman Arindam Bagchi said on X.
Modi and Herzog exchanged views on the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict in the region. Modi also emphasised India's support for a two-state solution.
PM Modi also reiterated the need for continued and safe delivery of humanitarian aid for the affected population, Bagchi said.
Meanwhile, Herzog said he spoke with world leaders on how Hamas violates ceasefire agreements and continues to attack their nation. "At the COP28 conference, I met dozens of leaders from around the world. I spoke with them about how Hamas blatantly violates the ceasefire agreements and repeated again and again the demand to place the release of the hostages at the very top of the international community's agenda, alongside respect for the right of the State of Israel to defend itself," Herzog added.
During the summit, PM Modi met with King of Bahrain, Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, the Prime Minister of Ethiopia, Abiy Ahmed Ali, British PM Rishi Sunak, UAE Vice President Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and other world leaders.
He proposed to host COP summit in India in 2028. Modi also launched the Green Credit Initiative focused on creating carbon sinks through people's participation.
Modi also urged rich countries to transfer technology to help developing nations comat climate change.
