On Quit India Day, Tushar Gandhi says he was briefly detained at Santa Cruz Police station

Both Opposition and the BJP commemorated the day

Tushar Gandhi- Writer and great-grandson of the Mahatma.

Tushar Gandhi, the great grandson of Mahatma Gandhi, said he was detained by the Mumbai police on Wednesday as he left home to  commemorate the Quit India Day.

A Twitter post by Gandhi read: "For the first time in history of Independent India, I have been detained at Santa Cruz Police Station as I left home to commemorate 9th August Quit India Day. I am proud My Great Grandparents Bapu and Ba had also been arrested by the British Police on the historic date."

He did not elaborate on the incident. However, Congress media wing chairman Pawan Khera reacted to the news on Twitter, stating: "Quit India has been replaced with Quiet India."

Meanwhile, Lok Sabha MPs observed a minute's silence as a tribute to the freedom fighters to commemorate the 1942 Quit India Movement.

Both the Opposition and Government also observed the day. While Opposition MPs paid floral tributes to Mahatma Gandhi on the Parliament premises, the BJP commemorated the day by calling for riddance of dynasticism, corruption, and appeasement politics.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also took a dig at the Opposition, saying that India is now speaking in one voice against corruption, dynasticism, and appeasement.

Modi's tweet read: "Tributes to the greats who took part in the Quit India Movement. Under the leadership of Gandhi Ji, this Movement played a major role in freeing India from colonial rule. Today, India is saying in one voice: Corruption Quit India. Dynasty Quit India. Appeasement Quit India."

BJP leader and former Union minister Ravishankar Prasad also targetted the Opposition, stating that corruption and appeasement politics come with dynastic politics. "For the sake of india, its security, integrity, it is very important that these three ills, namely blatant family rule, corruption, and shameful appeasement must quit india," Prasad told reporters.

"If the country's democratic fabric of the country is to be safeguarded, probity in politics has to be brought back and saved in the country, these three curses have to quit India," he added.
