Former West Bengal chief minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharya's daughter Suchetana Bhattacharya revealed that she is planning to undergo a sex change operation to become a man.
According to a report by India Today, Suchetana wants to become 'Suchetan' as she identifies herself as a man.
Suchetana, has begun taking legal advice and getting all the certificates required for the procedure.
Suchetana said she is undergoing the operation as part of her LGBTQ movement and that her parental or family identity is not a matter of concern.
Suchetana, who expects that her father will support her plan, requested that her parents should not be dragged into this and that she is a 41-year-old person who can take decisions for herself.
"Whoever considers himself a man mentally, is also a man, just as I consider myself male mentally. I want it to be physical now,” she has been quoted as saying.
She requested the media not to distort the news.
"This is my own struggle. I want to fight this alone. It is better late than never," she said and added that she had the orientation from childhood and that she had received support from many.
