Congress leader Sachin Pilot met protesting wrestlers at Jantar Mantar on Friday and questioned the delay in ensuring justice for them.

The Congress leader met with Bajrang Punia, Sakshi Malik, Vinesh Phogat and others who have been demanding action against Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh over alleged sexual harassment of wrestlers.

Why is there a delay in justice for those who made us proud, he asked and demanded that the legitimate demands of the wrestlers should be met as soon as possible.

He pointed out that for the past 26-27 days, the wrestlers have been in a lot of pain. Pilot said they are demanding action for the wrongdoing they faced. "We want their voices to be heard and they get justice," he was quoted as saying.

The Congress leader claimed that when youngsters, farmers, and sportspersons are not happy, the country cannot be happy and said justice should be ensured in a time-bound manner.

"We only want an impartial investigation into what the wrestlers have been demanding," he said.

On Thursday, the Congress had asked Prime Minister Narendra Modi to break his "silence" over the issue and accused him of trying to save Singh, who is also a BJP MP.

Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh said in a tweet in Hindi: "Sportspersons who have brought laurels to the country by winning medals have been demanding justice for more than four months, but the prime minister is trying to save his MP."

Congress general secretary Randeep Surjewala, who hails from Haryana, visited the protesting site on Thursday and expressed solidarity with their demands.

"I extended full support to the daughters and noted wrestlers who have been protesting for the last 26 days at Jantar Mantar demanding justice for the atrocities committed against them. We are with these daughters with our thoughts, words and deeds in this struggle," Surjewala tweeted later.
