Mysuru shocker: Medical student gang-raped; friend beaten up

The incident took place at the Lalitadripura area near Chamundi hills

In a shocking incident in Karnataka's Mysuru, a medical student from Uttar Pradesh was allegedly gang-raped by unidentified people while her male friend was beaten up by the accused. Alanahalli police have registered a case, but no arrest has been made so far.

The incident took place at the Lalitadripura area on Tuesday evening when the girl, riding pillion with her male friend, was on her way to Chamundi Hills. According to reports, a few people intercepted the duo and demanded money from them.

As they refused to pay, the gang attacked her friend and dragged her to a place where they sexually assaulted her.

Reports said the victim is a student at a private medical college in Mysuru. Both she and her friend have been admitted to a local hospital.

Police Commissioner D. Chandragupta visited the spot while multiple teams have been formed to nab the accused.

Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai told reporters in Delhi that he has directed the Director General of Police Praveen Sood to initiate steps to nab the culprits.

"Based on the statement, a case has been registered. I have directed the DGP that whoever has perpetrated it, they should be identified and stringent action should be taken against them," Bommai said.

Terming the incident unfortunate, State Home Minister Araga Jnanendra said he has directed the police to conduct a thorough inquiry and take stern action.
