COVID-19: More relaxations on the way, says Maharashtra CM

Thackeray said the government will take decision on local train travel

Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray said on Saturday that the state government is planning to give more relaxations to the COVID-19 restrictions in the coming days. Thackeray said the government will also take a decision on allowing travel in the local trains.

"The Maharashtra government is going to grant more relaxations, but we are taking every step cautiously. A decision will be taken for local train passengers as well. We need to ensure that these relaxations do not trigger another wave of COVID-19," the chief minister said. He was speaking at a function  organised by the BEST (Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport) undertaking to induct more electric buses into its fleet.

Thackeray said he had met the representatives of hotels and restaurants and assured them that the restrictions on timing would be eased step by step.

On August 02, the government had announced fresh relaxations to the Covid-induced restrictions in 25 districts, allowing malls, gyms and salons to open. All shops and other establishments were allowed to open till 8 pm on week days and till 3 pm on Saturdays.

All government and private offices were allowed to operate with full capacity. Outlets such as yoga centres, spa, saloon and gyms were given permission to operate with 50 per cent capacity and without the use of air conditioning.

However, no relaxation was given to the remaining 11 districts.
