A total of 6,31,417 people have received COVID-19 vaccination through 11,660 sessions in the country in the last four days, the Union health ministry said on Tuesday. According to the ministry, a total of 3,800 sessions were held on Tuesday.

Of the 1,77,368 beneficiaries who were administered the vaccine on Tuesday, 80,686 were from Karnataka, 69,405 from Telangana, 58,495 from Andhra Pradesh, 55,138 from Odisha, 42,093 from West Bengal and 42,085 from Bihar.

The ministry said so far only nine cases of AEFI (adverse event following immunisation) required hospitalisation. In Delhi, three cases have been discharged whereas one case is under observation at Rajiv Gandhi Hospital, Shahdara. Meanwhile, one more AEFI case from Uttarakhand has been discharged.

In Karnataka, one person has been discharged and other person is stable and under observation at District Hospital, Chitradurga. In Chhattisgarh also one person has been discharged. In Rajasthan, one case of suspected anaphylaxis is fine and is under observation at District Hospital, Bangar, the ministry claimed.

The health ministry on Tuesday requested those chosen for vaccination to not refuse the shots when their turn comes as it can lead to a rise in the coronavirus cases negating the hard work done by the healthcare workers. The ministry’s appeal came amid reports of several people not turning up for the vaccination drive.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi rolled out the world's largest inoculation drive against COVID-19 on Saturday and said the two vaccines being deployed will ensure a "decisive victory" for India against the pandemic.

India has approved two vaccines—Covaxin developed by Bharat Biotech and Covishield from the Oxford/AstraZeneca stable being manufactured by the Serum Institute of India—for emergency use in the country.
