On Sunday, Harshal Pradhan, an aide of Uddhav, had declared Urmila Matondkar would join the party in the presence of the chief minister. Urmila Matondkar's name has been forwarded to Governor B.S.Koshyari by the Shiv Sena for nomination to the Legislative Council from the governor's quota. The names of 11 others have also been forwarded by the three-party Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government for their nomination from the governor's quota.
Urmila had joined the Congress in March last year and had emerged as an articulate campaigner in the Lok Sabha polls. However, she lost by over 4.5 lakh votes to Gopal Shetty of the BJP.
When she quit the Congress, Urmila had blamed "petty politics" in the party. Urmila told ANI “My political and social sensibilities refuse to allow vested interests in the party to use me as a means to fight petty in-house politics instead of working on a bigger goal in Mumbai Congress.”
