Even as the number of coronavirus cases continues to increase with the country crossing t he 14 lakh-mark on Monday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, launched three testing facilities in Noida, Mumbai and Kolkata.

During the virtual launch event of the three ‘high-throughput’ testing facilities, the prime minister claimed that India is in a much better position compared to other countries in the fight against the pandemic because of the right decisions taken at the right time. He pointed out that the death rate in the country due to COVID-19 is lesser than many countries and the recovery rate better.

"There are more than 11,000 COVID-19 facilities and more than 11 lakh isolation beds in the country. We also have nearly 1,300 testing labs and more than five lakh tests are being conducted daily," Modi said, and added that these new testing facilities will make West Bengal, Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh more efficient in the fight against the pandemic.

The facilities are set up at National Institute of Cancer Prevention and Research in Noida, National Institute of Cholera and Enteric Diseases in Kolkata, and National Institute for Research in Reproductive Health in Mumbai.

According to a government statement, over 10,000 samples can be tested a day in these ‘high-throughput’ testing facilities.

In the battle against the pandemic, we have come to a state where we do not lack awareness, scientific data is expanding, and the resources increasing, the PM pointed out.
