Karnataka: CM Yediyurappa says 'situation out of control a little in some districts'

Karnataka has been witnessing a spurt in COVID-19 cases, with the biggest single-day spike of 2,062 cases being reported from the state on Wednesday. Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa, on Thursday, admitted that the situation is out of control in some of the districts in the state. The state has so far recorded over 28,000 cases.

According to Deccan Herald, the chief minister said, "In some districts, it is getting out of control a little. But the district administration and police are working day and night."

He said the Central team that had visited the state appreciated the government for the steps taken to contain the pandemic. The CM also said steps have been taken to arrange more ambulances in Bengaluru which has witnessed a sudden surge in cases. As many as 1,148 cases have been reported from Bengaluru alone on Wednesday.

The chief minister, accompanied by Deputy Chief Minister Ashwaththnarayan, Health Minister B. Sriramulu, Medical Education Minister K. Sudhakar and other ministers, visited the COVID Care Centre set up in Bangalore International Exhibition Centre.

According to Indian Express, in the wake of mounting coronavirus cases in the state capital, the chief minister's office said M Chinnaswamy cricket stadium and the Bengaluru Palace grounds will be converted into a COVID-19 care centre. The state government has appointed eight IAS officers as zonal commissioners in Bengaluru to coordinate the battle against the pandemic.

Bengaluru urban district tops the list of positive cases, with 12,509 infections, followed by Kalaburagi 1,816 and Dakshina Kannada 1,534. A total of 7,59,181 samples were tested in the state so far, out of which 19,134 were tested on Wednesday alone.
