Over the past month as the BJP and Shiv Sena continued posturing over the issue of a rotational arrangement for the post of chief minister in Maharashtra, a parallel war has been continuing on social media. Many Twitter users had accused the Shiv Sena of ignoring the mandate as the BJP and Shiv Sena, which were pre-poll allies, had obtained a majority in the 288-member House.
These voices have grown louder as the Shiv Sena is all set to form a government on Thursday with the NCP and Congress, two parties it has been opposed to for decades.
A tweet by Arun Vishwanathan about being "cheated" by the Shiv Sena on Tuesday fetched over 3,000 retweets by 2.30pm on Wednesday. Vishwanathan had tweeted, "I voted for Shiv Sena candidate solely based on their coalition with BJP. I, at all costs,didn't want a Congress government in my state. I feel cheated today."
Social activist Mayank Gandhi also echoed the same sentiments when he described the Shiv Sena's coalition with the NCP and Congress as a “fraud”. Gandhi wrote, “We were asked for votes for SS+BJP govt or INC+NCP govt. SS+NCP+INC govt is fraud. As a voter, don't care who wants to be CM and what MLAs want. Give us the govt we voted, or get out.”
The Shiv Sena has not been the only party subjected to trolling over the political drama in Maharashtra. While the Congress and NCP have been flayed for dropping their pretensions to 'secularism' in allying with the rightwing Shiv Sena, the BJP has also not been spared.

Soon after Devendra Fadnavis took oath as Maharashtra chief minister early on November 23, with support from Ajit Pawar, scores of Twitter users shared video clips and tweets of BJP leaders accusing the NCP of corruption. A particularly popular tweet was one from Fadnavis in 2014 in which he vowed never to seek support from the NCP to form a government.
