In a tragic incident, a 19-year-old gang-rape victim died in Ahmedabad, a month after delivering a stillborn child.
The police on Friday arrested two of the accused, a day after the victim succumbed to complications at the Civil Hospital. All the accused are allegedly associated with the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad, the students' wing of the BJP. The police have arrested Chirag Vaghela and Ankit Parekh. DCP of Zone 5 Akshayraj Makwana told media persons that two other accused—Hardik Shukla and Raj—are yet to be arrested. He claimed that it was diffficult to trace them as the victim had revealed only the first names of the accused.
The girl, a B.Com student, was raped by the accused in July 2108. The complaint, however, was registered only after she delivered a stillborn child in the end of February, this year. According to sources, she had gone to a local doctor and had allegedly overdosed with abortion pills. According to doctors, her kidneys were damaged and this had also led to several other complications.
She was lured by the accused under the pretext that they would help her clear the Allowed To Keep Term (ATKT) examination. She was then taken to a guest house on the pretext of meeting someone, and raped.
The police have exhumed the foetus to match the DNA with that of the accused.
