Period pains/ cramps are real and it is unbearable for some women during the initial days. In his recent Instagram video, Dr Pal (Palaniappan) Manickam, a gastroenterologist talks about tips to relieve period pain.
What are the tips to relieve the period cramps?
1. Eat magnesium-rich foods like bananas, and pumpkin seeds to reduce cramps.
2. Use castor oil packs by soaking a cloth in warm castor oil and apply to your abdomen
3. Drink herbal teas like chamomile and ginger to calm cramps
4. Include omega-3s from fish and flaxseeds to reduce pain
5. Apply a heating pad to ease muscle cramps and boost blood flow
6. Practice pelvic floor relaxation exercises with deep belly breaths to release tension
7. Include figs to replenish iron, fight fatigue, ease cramps and regulate menstrual flow
8. Sleep in a fetal position to relieve pressure. It also helps one sleep better.
9. Drink coconut water to stay hydrated and reduce bloating
