79th BAFTA Film Awards: 'Sinners', 'One Battle After Another', and 'Hamnet' win big

Notably, India made history at the BAFTAs when the Manipuri-language film 'Boong' was named Best Children's & Family Film. It is produced by Farhan Akhtar and directed by Lakshmipriya Devi

The 2026 BAFTA Film Awards, held at London’s Royal Festival Hall and hosted by Alan Cumming, honoured the finest achievements in film from the past year.

Leading with six BAFTA wins was Paul Thomas Anderson's "One Battle After Another", adjudged Best Film, along with Best Director and Best Adapted Screenplay for Anderson, along with Best Supporting Actor for Sean Penn, and trophies for Cinematography (Michael Bauman) and Editing (Andy Jurgensen). Anderson’s win is historic, since it's his first BAFTA win in the Directing category.

Ryan Coogler's "Sinners" won three: Original Screenplay for Coogler, Best Supporting Actress for Wunmi Mosaku, and Original Score for Ludwig Göransson. Like Anderson, this is Coogler's first BAFTA win too.

“Hamnet” won two major awards: Outstanding British Film and Leading Actress for Jessie Buckley. This, too, is another first-ever BAFTA award. The film has Buckley sharing the screen with actor Paul Mescal. The duo plays Agnes Shakespeare and William Shakespeare, respectively.

Guillermo del Toro's "Frankenstein" won three in technical categories: Best Costume Design, Make-Up and Hair, and Production Design.

In other notable wins, Robert Aramayo earned Leading Actor for “I Swear”, while “My Father’s Shadow” by Akinola Davies Jr. and Wale Davies took home the award for Outstanding Debut. “Zootropolis 2” claimed Best Animated Film, and “This Is Endometriosis” won Best British Short Film.

India's first BAFTA for 'Boong'

Notably, India made history at the BAFTAs when the Manipuri-language film "Boong" was named Best Children's & Family Film. Produced by Farhan Akhtar, the coming-of-age drama, directed by Lakshmipriya Devi, revolves around a young boy living in Manipur amidst social and political strife.
