Tahar Rahim-led thriller series 'Prisoner' unveiled by Sky Network

The show is created by Matt Charman (Bridge of Spies) and features an all-star cast and direction from Otto Bathurst (Peaky Blinders)

Sky Network has revealed the first look at Prisoner, a new thriller series starring French-Algerian Tahar Rahim. The internationally acclaimed actor, known for the French crime drama Un Prophete (A Prophet) and The Serpent, leads the series created and written by Matt Charman, known for co-writing the screenplay of Steven Spielberg's Bridge of Spies.

Rahmin's co-star is Izuka Hoyle, playing a prison transport officer assigned to escort a high-profile criminal (Rahim) to court to testify against his employers. The BAFTA award-winning actress is known for appearances in shows such as Ludwig and Boiling Point. A six-episode series, Prisoner has Peaky Blinders fame Otto Bathurst involved in a directorial capacity.

As per the official logline, Prisoner follows "Amber (Hoyle), a principled young prison transport officer tasked with escorting Tibor (Rahim), a trained killer and high-value inmate, to court to testify against his elite crime syndicate. When their convoy is brutally ambushed, she’s forced to put her life in his hands. As the sole survivors, handcuffed and on the run, they must race to reach their destination alive and on time. Along the way, their uneasy alliance is tested as the syndicate closes in. Trust becomes a weapon and their shackled survival a moral dilemma, forcing Amber to confront how far she’ll go to protect what matters most."

The cast also includes notable actors such as Eddie Marsan (Ray Donovan, King & Conqueror), Catherine McCormack (Lockerbie: A Search for Truth, 28 Weeks Later), Leonie Benesch (September 5, The Teachers' Lounge), Finn Bennett (Black Doves, True Detective), and Youssef Kerkour (Lockerbie: A Search For Truth), among others.

It's not yet known which popular streaming platform will host the series for international release.

A César-winner and a BAFTA and Golden Globe-nominated actor, Rahim has appeared in the work of such celebrated directors as Ridley Scott, Julia Ducournau, Damian Chazelle, Asghar Farhadi, and Jacques Audiard. Un Prophete, released in 2009, won the Grand Prix at Cannes and an Oscar for director Jacques Audiard. The film was France’s submission in the foreign language category.
