Filmmaker Senna Hegde's latest Malayalam feature Avihitham is gearing up for its streaming release. The comedy, which released a month ago in theatres, will have its post-theatrical premiere on JioHotstar on November 14.
Featuring a cast list that includes both newcomers and seasoned actors from the independent scene, Avihitham sees Hegde returning to the same territory that made his Thinkalazhcha Nishchayam a critical and audience darling.
Featuring Unniraj, Renji Kankol, Vineeth Chakyar, Dhanesh Koliyat, Rakesh Ushar, and Vrinda Menon, Avihitham revolves around the efforts by a group of men to catch a cheating couple red-handed by planning an elaborate mission to make their identities known to the neighbourhood.
In its review of the film, THE WEEK wrote: "Avihitham reminds us that some films are ill fit for big stars and that no matter how unfamiliar these actors may feel to us, if they can momentarily take us back to that time when we saw Priyadarshan’s Mukundentta Sumithra Vilikkunnu or Sreenivasan’s Vadakkunokkiyanthram for the first time, when we were kids and yet to familiarize ourselves with not just Mohanlal or Sreenivasan, but also the immensely gifted legendary comedians who acted alongside in supporting roles, I think their mission is successful.
Avihitham was produced by Hegde, Mukesh Mehta and CV Sarathi under the banner E4 Experiments, in association with Harris Desom and PB Anish. Hegde's frequent collaborator Sreeraj Raveendran handled the camera, with Sanath Sivaraj as the editor.
The same team recently announced that they are going to make another project together. Titled Blood-y, it will see Hegde tackling a gangster tale set in Kasaragod.
