Ahead of the premiere of his new Apple TV show Pluribus on November 7, 2025, creator Vince Gilligan (Breaking Bad, Better Call Saul) opened up about the show's genesis and whether the Breaking Bad world has more stories to offer.
Who is playing the protagonist?
Headlined by Emmy-nominated Better Call Saul alum Rhea Seehorn, Pluribus sees Gilligan returning to the sci-fi genre after his stint as a writer on The X-Files. It explores a world where peace, happiness, and harmony are the norm, and Seehorn's character, a miserable novelist, sets out to save the world from this strange phenomenon.
When will the first and final episodes air?
The first two episodes from the nine-episode series will be released on November 7, followed by weekly episodes culminating in the finale on December 26. Apple has already confirmed that the series has been ordered for two seasons.
Seehorn's co-stars include Karolina Wydra (“Sneaky Pete”) and Carlos-Manuel Vesga (“The Hijacking of Flight 601”), and guest stars Miriam Shor (“American Fiction”) and Samba Schutte (“Our Flag Means Death”).
Vince Gilligan wanted to write heroes for a change
On keeping everything a mystery, citing the joy that comes from discovering movies and shows while knowing as little information about them, Gilligan told The Hollywood Reporter that the show was born out of a wish to write heroes for a change, unlike the flawed, morally ambiguous characters from Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul.
"Carol Sturka is a hero. She’s imperfect. She can be a bit of a noodge or a curmudgeon or what have you, but we root for her. She wants to do the right thing; she wants to save the world. That’s refreshing," says Gilligan. "As much as I love Walter White and as proud as I am of Breaking Bad — and as much as I know that it’ll be the first sentence in my obituary — at a certain point, you’re like, 'God, it’d be nice to write a hero again, someone who’s trying to do the right thing. I’ve been working for years now to keep a guy safe through his various daily machinations, when his biggest goal in life is to have a U-Stor-It garage filled with cash, and he’ll kill anyone to make that happen.” So it’s nice we get to mix it up now."
Does Gilligan have more ‘Breaking Bad’ stories?
Gilligan also shared that he is not tired of the world of Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul, but he'd rather not pursue anything further in that space at that moment, because he believes in leaving people with good memories and not messing them up.
"I’d rather leave a little money on the table, a little desire on the table, a little want for new Breaking Bad stories," he adds. "I don’t want to disappoint anyone, but I’d rather disappoint folks by not giving them any more Breaking Bad than have them say, 'Okay, man, that was a really great multi-course meal, but that last serving in the dessert bowl was dog shit. Now I’ve got a bad taste in my mouth, and that’s all I remember now.' So I don’t want to do that. I really don’t want to do that."
