Mike Flanagan has announced completion of his adaptation of Stephen King's classic horror novel Carrie, backed by Prime Video. It is expected to premiere in 2026.
Sharing the update on his Instagram handle, Flanagan called the experience of working on the project one of his career's best, and "one of the very best ensembles I’ve ever worked with, and already one of my favorite projects ever. Cannot wait for you guys to see what we made."
The series had gone into production in June.
The show is headlined by Summer H. Howell as the eponymous character, with Siena Agudong, Matthew Lillard, and Flanagan regulars such as Samantha Sloyan, Rahul Kohli, and Kate Siegel, among others. Amber Midthunder, who played the lead in the Predator spin-off Prey, is cast in the role of Carrie's gym teacher.
In the Brian De Palma original, Sissy Spacek played Carrie.
Some might ask why a new adaptation of Carrie is needed when Brian De Palma had made a classic back in 1976, besides the 2013 remake directed by Kimberly Peirce. But we are talking about Mike Flanagan, who has proven time and again that there's nobody who does horror better than him in contemporary cinema.
With multiple acclaimed projects under his belt such as Gerald's Game and Doctor Sleep, aside from shows like Midnight Mass, The Fall of the House of Usher, and The Haunting of Hill House, Flanagan has become a hot property in Hollywood.
Flanagan, who last feature was the adaptation of the Stephen King story The Life of Chuck, is also working on the television adaptation of the author's popular The Dark Tower book series.
