Rishab Shetty announces release of 'Kantara Chapter 1' English version, to have shorter runtime

Beyond the English version, a Spanish dubbed version is also planned. The initial versions of 'Kantara Chapter 1' have already achieved a monumental worldwide gross of over Rs 700 crore

The English version of Rishab Shetty's Kantara: Chapter 1 has been announced. Interestingly, around 34 minutes of material will be excised for this new edit, which is set to open internationally on October 31, 2025. The original version has a duration of 2 hr 49 mins, while the English version will run for 2 hr 14 mins.

Rishab posted the announcement with the English version's poster and runtime on his social media pages on Wednesday.

"A divine saga that resonates beyond borders and languages! #KantaraChapter1 𝐄𝐧𝐠𝐥𝐢𝐬𝐡 𝐕𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧 releasing in cinemas worldwide from 𝐎𝐜𝐭𝐨𝐛𝐞𝐫 𝟑𝟏𝐬𝐭. Experience the epic journey of faith, culture, and devotion in all its glory."

Rishab had earlier announced the Spanish dubbed version as well, the release date of which is yet to be announced. The plan was made to cater to audiences in Latin America, including Mexico, Colombia, Argentina, Chile, and Venezuela, taking into account the success of the original in these regions.

Meanwhile, the worldwide gross of the original versions has crossed Rs 700 crore, and nearing Rs 800 crore. Before this, Vicky Kaushal's Chhaava was the other Indian movie to achieve this feat.

In its review of the Hombale Films production, which co-stars Rukmini Vasanth, Gulshan Devaiah and Jayaram in integral roles, THE WEEK wrote: "It's a package bursting at the seams, swiftly introducing tribes, ugly feuds, and a web of subplots that echo events from the first film. This crowded — literally and figuratively — narrative creates both engaging variety and occasional confusion. Most often, bigger ambitions strain narrative focus. South Indian cinema has been witnessing more of that lately. But, thankfully, Rishab knows where to place all the highs."
