Who would've thought that a movie on Formula 1 racing would go on to make the kind of numbers it did? The film that set the cash registers ringing for consecutive weeks wasn't initially expected to do the same, considering the niche quality of the subject matter.
Released in late June, it collected $624 million worldwide. In India, the film found an audience among even film buffs who are not religious followers of the sport. So what made it work? “It gave you a great ride, and you got immersed in this world that you knew nothing about. And when you walked out, you knew a lot more about what these drivers go through. They’re some of the greatest athletes in the world. There are only 20 of them,” said Bruckheimer at the Variety Entertainment & Technology Summit.
'A sequel? Hopefully..."
“We’re developing another Top Gun. Hopefully, we’ll make another F1. We’re working on another Pirates,” Bruckheimer added when asked if fans will get to go on another round with Sonny Hayes on the circuit. “We’re working on a lot of different movies that have become successful, and hopefully we can get ’em all made.”
'Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise just wanna win'
Bruckheimer showered praise on Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise, considering they bring the advantage of having a winning attitude and sincerity, and for adding plenty of value to the work they do. “When you work with Tom or with Brad, they’re so value-added because they just want to win. They want to make a great movie. They want to have a great performance. They want to ensure that they can promote the movie and that audiences will love it. They just wanna win,” said the producer of other blockbusters such as The Rock, Pirates of the Caribbean, and Armageddon.
