'Hridayapoorvam' Box Office Day 9: Mohanlal unlocks new Mollywood record as film crosses Rs.50 crores globally

On the ninth day of its release, 'Hridayapoorvam' entered into the 50-crore club of Malayalam films worldwide and this meant a new record for Mohanlal

'Hridayapoorvam' has gone past Rs.50 crores at the worldwide box office

There is no denying that Mollywood's 2025 has been defined by one man - Mohanlal. After a lull in previous years, the veteran superstar bounced back in style through two mammoth blockbusters in Empuraan and Thudarum, both of which grossed over Rs.200 crores worldwide.

While Empuraan, sequel to the 2019 blockbuster Lucifer, set benchmark records on its first day and initial weekend, Thudarum was the marathon runner at the box office as it became the first Malayalam film to go past Rs.100 crores in Kerala. Both films set a plethora of records, both at the domestic as well as overseas box office, re-establishing the fact that Mohanlal's stardom hasn't faded at all.

Onam 2025 saw Mohanlal come up with his third release of the year, Hridayapoorvam, that saw him reunite with another veteran in director Sathyan Anthikadu. While the box office is being dominated and ripped apart by the Kalyani Priyadarshan-Naslen starrer Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra, Hridayapoorvam has also been steady at the box office and is set to emerge as Mohanlal's third successive hit at the box office. This is not all, there is another landmark achievement that has been unlocked by the superstar on the ninth day of its release. By the afternoon shows on Friday (September 5), Hridayapoorvam has clocked past Rs.50 crores globally, making it the third such film in a row for Mohanlal.

No superstar in Mollywood has had such a hat-trick of Rs. 50-crore grossers before. It must be remembered that it is Mohanlal who holds record for opening the Rs. 50-crore club in Mollywood as well as the Rs. 100-crore club alongside a series of other benchmarks at the box office. Fittingly, it is the 65-year-old who has opened the latest benchmark as well. The film has done a major share of its business outside Kerala, although the collections in the state are also along decent levels.
