Manoj Bajpayee is reuniting with the filmmaker who gave the actor his breakthrough in 'Satya' after eight years. The former announced that filming has commenced for a horror-comedy 'Police Station Mein Bhoot', which has Bajpayee playing a cop dealing with a demon. Genelia Deshmukh has been cast as the female lead.
A first look, possibly AI-generated, was shared by the actor on his social media handles, with the caption: "SHOOT BEGINS. From Satya to now… some journeys are meant to come full circle. Thrilled to reunite with Ram Gopal Varma after nearly three decades for our new horror comedy Police Station Mein Bhoot. This one is special."
The project marks Bajpayee's sixth film with Varma after 'Satya', 'Kaun', 'Shool', 'Road' and 'Sarkar 3'. The last one, starring Amitabh Bachchan, was released seven years ago.
Meanwhile, Bajpayee will be seen as a cop, this time based on a real-life character, in 'Inspector Zende', a new true crime-based investigative thriller arriving on Netflix this weekend.
Directed by Chinmay Mandlekar, the film is set in the 1970s and 80s, and is said to be inspired by the cases of Madhukar Bapurao Zende, the real-life cop who apprehended Charles Sobhraj twice. Inspector Zende will explore Zende's attempts to nab Jim Sarbh's Sobhraj-inspired character Carl Bhojraj, aka 'The Swimsuit Killer', after the latter escapes from Tihar Jail. Sobhraj was nicknamed "The Bikini Killer". Recently, he was portrayed by Sidhant Gupta in Netflix's Black Warrant, helmed by Vikramaditya Motwane.
The other cast members in 'Inspector Zende' include Bhalchandra Kadam, Sachin Khedekar, Girija Oak and Harish Dudhade.
