Aamir and Faissal Khan: Revisiting the brothers' early film collaborations

Once united on screen, Aamir and Faissal Khan find themselves embroiled in a public feud. Before their fallout, the brothers shared the screen three times, from 1988 to 2000

Aamir Khan’s family issued a statement on Sunday as the actor’s younger brother Faissal gave a bombshell interview with Pinkvilla, alleging that his family mistreated him by labelling the actor mentally ill and claiming that he was forcefully confined in their family home.

"We are distressed by Faissal's hurtful and misleading portrayal of his mother Zeenat Tahir Husain, his sister Nikhat Hegde, and his brother Aamir. As this is not the first time he has misrepresented these events, we feel it necessary to clarify our intentions and reaffirm our solidarity as a family,” the statement read.

While the brothers seem to be engaged in a very public feud, their relationship was not always so strained. Only a year apart in age, the brothers acted together in a few films in the early years of Aamir’s career. Here’s a look at some of their collaborations:

Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak (1988)

A Romeo and Juliet-esque story, the film sees Aamir in the lead as Raj, yearning for the enemy’s daughter, Rashmi (Juhi Chawla). Much like the Shakespearean play, the film focuses on forbidden love that ends in tragedy. Faissal bagged a minor role in the Mansoor Khan directorial as a henchman.

Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar (1992)

Another Mansoor Khan creation, the film centres on Sanju, a carefree troublemaker who steps in for his brother, a top cyclist, in an inter-college cycle race. As his brother lies in a coma, he trains hard for the race, determined to bring pride to his family. Faissal is reportedly featured in an uncredited role as a college student.

Mela (2000)

In a more substantial role, Faissal plays Shankar, a close buddy of Kishan (Aamir). When Roopa (Twinkle Khanna) escapes from her village, infiltrated by terrorists, Kishan, who develops feelings for her, and Shankar keep her safe and embark on a journey of revenge against Gujjar Singh, who killed her friend.
