Joseph Kosinski’s latest ambitious directorial venture has pushed the throttle at the global box office, earning a significant share from India too. F1: The Movie debuted globally on June 27, with a two-day early special IMAX preview.

In India, according to industry tracker Sacnilk, the Brad Pitt-starrer opened with Rs 5.5 crore on Friday, eventually accumulating Rs 21.25 crore by the weekend. Vishnu Manchu-starrer Kannappa also hit theatres on the same day. The pan-India film, which racks up a stellar cast but failed to meet expectations, garnered Rs 23.19 crore.
Globally, the film has managed to earn $144 million, making it Apple Studios’ first box office hit. With the earnings mounting, it looks like producers—Pitt, Kosinski, Jerry Bruckheimer, and seven-time Formula One World Champion Lewis Hamilton—will recover their hefty investment and more. The budget for the racing film reportedly racked up to over $300 million.

F1: The Movie’s opening weekend earnings have almost matched lifetime collections of previous films Apple Studio-backed productions like Oscar-nominated The Killers of the Flower Moon, which earned a reported $158 million.

Retired racer Sonny Hayes is asked to team up with and mentor hotheaded rookie driver Joshua Pearce for the APXGP F1 team. The seasoned Haynes and spirited Pearce navigate their rocky relationship while aiming to help their team lift the World Constructors’ Championship for the 2024 FIA Formula 1 Championship. Directed by Joseph Kosinski, the film stars Brad Pitt, Damson Idris, Kerry Condon, Tobias Menzies, and Javier Bardem.
