'A Company Man' star So Ji-sub returns in Netflix's Korean thriller series 'Mercy for None'

Directed by Choi Sung-eun, the eight-episode series, whose Korean title is 'Gwangjang', is based on the webtoon 'Plaza Wars' written by Oh Se-Hyung and illustrated by Kim Kyun Tae

Korean actor So Ji-sub, known for A Company Man, Doctor Lawyer and I'm Sorry I Loved You, is returning to the action thriller space after 13 years with the Netflix series Mercy For None, with streaming premiere set for June 6.

So Ji-sub plays a gangster seeking to uncover the truth about his brother's death in a blood-soaked revenge saga, as evidenced by the trailer, which promises ample thrills and violence that should satisfy Korean thriller cinema aficionados.

Other cast members include Huh Joon-ho, Gong Myoung, Choo Young Woo, An Kil-kang, Tiger Lee, and Cho Han-cheul, with special appearances by Cha Seung Won and Lee Jun-hyuk.

The trailer reveals So Ji-sub's protagonist, Gi-jun, taking on opponents with a baseball bat, said to be his signature weapon, as he goes from one nasty underworld figure to another to uncover the name of the true mastermind who orchestrated the chain of events that led to his brother's demise. We also get the sense that Gi-jun feels indirectly responsible for what happened to his brother, seemingly making it more personal than it already is.

Directed by Choi Sung-eun, the eight-episode series, whose Korean title is Gwangjang, is based on the webtoon Plaza Wars written by Oh Se Hyung and illustrated by Kim Kyun Tae.

Netflix recently released another webtoon-based thriller adaptation, Revelations, directed by Train to Busan director Yeon Sang-ho, who co-wrote the script with Choi Gyu-seok, based on the latter's webtoon of the same name.

Mercy for None joins other popular Korean thriller series on Netflix, such as My Name and Bloodhounds. Meanwhile, the third season of Squid Game is set to arrive on June 27.
