Amazon Prime Video has announced a date for the second season of their series, Suzhal—The Vortex. The new season of the mind-bending mystery show will begin streaming on February 28.
Created by filmmakers Pushkar and Gayatri, it has episodes directed by Bramma and Sarjun KM.
Kathir and Aishwarya Rajesh play the leads in a cast that also features Lal, Saravanan, Gouri Kishan, Monisha Blessy, and Samyuktha Vishwanathan, among others.
Manjima Mohan and Kayal Chandran make special appearances.
The team reveals the new season is "set against the backdrop of the Ashtakaali festival, an annual festival held in the fictional village of Kaalipattanam in Tamil Nadu."
Written and produced by Pushkar and Gayatri under the banner of Wallwatcher Films, the new season picks up from the ending of Season 1, exploring themes of "familial bonds, love, sacrifice, integrity, revenge and fear."
In a statement, Pushkar and Gayatri said the encouraging responses to two of their shows, Suzhal—The Vortex and Vadhandhi—The Fable of Velonie, have been one of the motivating factors behind their latest creation. "It's a testament to how streaming has paved the way for local stories with a compelling narrative across formats, region-and-language agnostic," said the duo, adding that the second season ventures into an "even darker, mysterious and absorbing crime."
Pushkar and Gayatri are known for the Tamil dark comedies – Oram Po and Va-Quarter Cutting and the Hindi remake of Vikram Vedha starring Hrithik Roshan and Saif Ali Khan.
The first season, released in June 2022, also starred R Parthiban, Sriya Reddy, Harish Uthaman, Gopika Ramesh, and others.
