Rapper Yo Yo Honey Singh took to social media to issue a statement about the domestic violence charges filed against him by his wife Shalini Talwar. Singh said that he “strongly refutes all the allegations” but will speak no further as “the matter is sub-judice”.

He wrote: “I have never issued a public statement or press note in the past despite being subjected to harsh criticism for my lyrics, speculation on my health, & negative media coverage in general. However, I see no merit in maintaining a studied silence this time because some of the allegations have been directed at my family — my old parents and younger sister — who have stood by me during some very difficult and trying times and comprise my world. The allegations are cynical and defaming in nature.”

Singh added that he had full faith in the judicial system.

Earlier this week, Shalini accused the rapper of domestic abuse, mental harassment, sexual violence, and financial fraud, say media reports. The case has been filed under Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act. The singer has been asked to file his reply by August 28.
