Mumbai cops summon Kangana Ranaut, Rangoli Chandel

They have been asked to appear on Nov 10, Nov 11

The Mumbai police have issued a notice to Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut and her sister Rangoli Chandel to appear before them on November 10 and November 11 in connection with a case of allegedly promoting enmity between communities through their remarks.

Last month, a Mumbai court had ordered the police to look into a complaint filed by Munawwar Ali Sayyed, a Bollywood casting director, who stated that Kangana and Rangoli were hurting religious sentiments with their tweets and statements.

Sayyed had submitted to the court that offences under sections 153A, 295A, 124 read with 34 of the Indian Penal Code have been committed by the duo through their interviews and social media accounts.

The complainant said Kangana “is continuously defaming Bollywood film industry and is portraying people working in Bollywood films as a hub of nepotism, favouritism, drug addicts, communally-biased people, murderers”.

According to NDTV, on October 21 the duo was issued a notice asking them to appear before officials to record statements in the case. However, Kangana’s lawyer had responded then saying she was in Himachal Pradesh and busy with the wedding preparations of her cousin brother.
