‘Penguin’ trailer: Keerthy Suresh promises a gripping film

The film will premiere on Amazon Prime Video on June 19

The trailer of Keerthy Suresh’s film Penguin was released on Thursday. The film is scheduled to release directly on Amazon Prime Video on June 19, skipping theatrical release.

The teaser of the film was also out recently. Both teaser and the trailer suggest that the film is about a mother’s search for her missing son. Touted to be a thriller, the film is set in a picturesque hill town. The eerie background score, dark settings, Keerthy’s screams and gory scenes only add to the chills. The villain, sporting a Charlie Chaplin mask and an umbrella, could be the person behind the missing children, though nothing is revealed in the trailer.

The trilingual film will release in Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam. “Behind all your stories, there’s a mother’s story. Because here is where yours begins,” reads the film's introduction in the teaser.

Written and directed by Eashvar Karthic, Penguin is produced by Karthik Subbaraj’s Stone Bench Films along with Passion Studios.

Jyotika’s Tamil film Ponmagal Vandhal was the first major film to directly release on Amazon Prime Video in the midst of the pandemic. Gulabo Sitabo, featuring Amitabh Bachchan and Ayushmann Khurrana, is the next high profile release on the OTT platform.
