Indian Navy Chief Admiral Dinesh K. Tripathi, who is in the US for an official visit, held a series of high-level engagements with key American military leaders, including Admiral Samuel J. Paparo, Commander of the US indo-pacific Command; Admiral Stephen T. Koehler, Commander of the US Pacific Fleet; and Lieutenant General James F. Glynn, Commander of the US Marine Forces Pacific.
The discussions between the two sides were focused on reviewing and advancing the major pillars of India-US defence cooperation, the Indian Navy said in a tweet. There was special emphasis on strengthening maritime security, enhancing interoperability, and expanding operational coordination across the Indo-pacific.
Both sides explored deeper information-sharing arrangements and improved maritime domain awareness, building upon existing mechanisms such as the Indo-Pacific Maritime Domain Awareness (IPMDA) initiative and linkages with the Information Fusion Centre–Indian Ocean Region (IFC-IOR).
Safeguarding sea lines of communication and critical undersea infrastructure was also covered in the discussions.
The leaders discussed coordinated responses for humanitarian assistance and disaster relief (HADR), search and rescue (SAR), counter-piracy, and other non-traditional security challenges, the Navy said in a tweet on Saturday.
They also looked into ways to scale up the scope and complexity of bilateral and multilateral exercises—including malabar, passext engagements, and participation through the Combined Maritime Forces and MILAN frameworks—to refine joint warfighting capabilities, logistics, and sustainment.
Another major focus area was cooperation in emerging maritime domains, including potential collaboration in unmanned systems, intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR), cybersecurity, and space-enabled maritime operations, aimed at enhancing collective readiness and resilience at sea.
"The interactions reaffirmed the enduring partnership between the #IndianNavy and @USNavy, as well as the growing synergy with U.S. Marine and joint forces – anchored in mutual trust, shared values, and a common commitment to a free, open, inclusive, and rules-based #IndoPacific," the tweet from the Indian Navy read.
