Amid incidents of cross-border firing and terror attacks, India, Pakistan hold flag meeting in J&K

The flag meeting between India and Pakistan will take place near the Line of Control on Friday

In the wake of repeated instances of cross-border firing and an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) attack along the Line of Control (LoC) in recent times, India and Pakistan held a flag meeting along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch district on Friday.

According to sources, the brigade-commander level flag meeting took place in the Chakkan-Da-Bagh crossing point area with both sides highlighting the need to maintain peace along the borders.

According to news agency PTI, the meeting, which lasted for 75 minutes, took place in a congenial atmosphere and both sides agreed to honour the ceasefire agreement in the larger interest of peace on the borders.

Two army personnel, including a captain, were killed in an IED attack carried out by suspected terrorists in the Akhnoor sector of the Jammu region on February 11.

Two army personnel were also injured in separate incidents of cross-border firing along the LoC in Rajouri and Poonch districts, while one more army personnel was injured in a landmine explosion last week.

The Pakistani side suffered heavy casualties as India retaliated to the provocation. The extent of damage on the Pakistan side in the retaliatory action was not known immediately but the officials said the enemy forces suffered heavy casualties.

Ceasefire violations along the borders of Jammu and Kashmir have been rare since India and Pakistan renewed the ceasefire agreement on February 25, 2021.
