India Post is gearing up to revolutionise its mail and parcel delivery services by introducing a guaranteed delivery system that promises to deliver mail in 24 hours or 48 hours and parcels by the next day. This significant upgrade was announced by Union Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia on October 17, 2025.

Scindia chaired the joint briefing of the Department of Posts, Department of Telecommunications, and the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (MDoNER).

The union minister said, “We are going to launch new products with guaranteed delivery of mails and parcels. There will be a 24-hour Speed Post service, which will ensure delivery of mails within 24 hours. Similarly, there will be a 48-hour Speed Post for delivery within 48 hours.” He added that these services would be officially launched in January 2026.

Currently, parcel deliveries through India Post usually take 3 to 5 days, but the new initiative promises to reduce this waiting time dramatically by enabling next-day delivery.

India Post to take on e-commerce, courier giants

This improvement aims to keep India Post competitive in the fast-growing e-commerce and courier market, meeting customers’ increasing expectations for prompt delivery.

This push for faster delivery times is part of a broader government vision to transform India Post from a traditional cost centre into a profit centre by 2029.

Minister Scindia stressed that modernising postal services and improving their efficiency will help India Post continue to serve not only urban areas but also millions across rural India.

The new guaranteed timeline services are designed to build customer confidence in India Post’s reliability while encouraging wider usage for both personal and business needs.

India Post holds a unique place as the country’s oldest and most trusted postal institution, with a vast network covering the remotest corners of India.
